See the renowned Magellan Marker, a spot where the legendary explorer was cut down by the mighty chieftain of Lapu-Lapu. Then visit his shrine, where it is said his body was laid to rest.

As for those renowned beaches of Mactan, there are resorts that cluster along the coastline offering space on those beautiful powder-white stretches of sand, where you can sit back and relax in a true island paradise.

If sunbathing isn’t your thing, there are many who fly to Mactan to discover the amazing underwater life and landscapes just off-shore. Go on an island hopping tour that incorporates Olango Island and the Reef Flat that has become famous among divers.

Best time to visit Mactan and Cebu

· For beach weather, March through to May is the best time to visit these islands, when the days are warm, dry and at 22-31°C.

· The wettest months run from July to August, and this time of year is not ideal to book a trip to this area of the Philippines, unless you love the rain.
