Boquete is famous throughout Panama for being THE place where to escape from the heat. Located in the mountains, it has a fresh climate and pristine natural settings. It is a great base for some amazing hiking, walking and for visiting the nearby coffee farms.
The most beautiful hidden gem in panama! I can see why this is an expat haven. So many retirees here for good reason. The views of the volcano and mountains are breath taking and the city is quaint and peaceful. If you ever have a chance, make a trek here as its such a relaxing and beautiful place!
Whether you're going East from Costa Rica or Northwest from Panama City to Bocas del Toro, the bucolic, temperate mountain town of Boquete is well worth some of your time. A world away from both the party culture of Bocas and the metropolitan glitz of Panama City, Boquete is tranquil oasis in the misty mountains of the Chiriquí Highlands, and an ideal place to trek through the surrounding forests and jungles. Some treks, like the popular Sendero los Quetzales, can be done on your own, and there are plenty of organizations in town that will guide you towards other natural attractions, including some spectacular waterfalls, hot springs, a mini-canyon, and nearby Volcán Barú for serious adventurers. Given the stunning scenery and cool temperatures, Boquete is popular with foreign travelers and residents alike, meaning there's a wide range of terrific options for both dining and accommodation. For budget travelers, check out Hostal Mamallena or the perfectly located Refugio del Río, where you can relax to the sounds of a babbling brook flowing right by your rocking chair.
if you like trekking, try this great 8hr. hiking "The Quetzals Trail" from Cerro Punta to Boquete. I didn't see any Quetzals but the trail itself was great and not so hard. most of it down hill.
