Why visit Krakow?
Beautiful, magical Krakow is one of Europe’s less visible cities on brochures, but is one of the continent’s most lovely. Blending its long history, with an exciting and vibrant contemporary culture, this is one of the best places to be introduced to the storied nation of Poland.
Things to do in Krakow
Start exploring this city from its heart, the Old Town, and its Main Market Square. This is considered to be the largest medieval squares of its kind, and a huge attraction in the city. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, visitors can explore the Cloth Hall, where people were trading textiles as far back as 700 years ago.
Nearby, sandwiched between the Old Town and the equally fascinating Jewish Quarter, is the Gothic Wawel Castle, where you can wander through this stunning castle and see the preserved royal coronation sword. In the Jewish Quarter itself, explorers can go on heritage walks which take you through the history of the people in this city, right up to the occupation of the Germans in World War 2. This makes for an excellent tour, especially if you are considering a trip out to the incredibly emotional Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Exploring the centre of town will take up much of your time, as you will discover that there cobbled streets also hide boutiques, shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. However, if you would like to go a little further afield, head to Salwator, west of the Old Town, and an incredibly green and lush part of town, with its main attraction being the Kościuszko Mound, a monument dedicated to the famous Polish freedom fighter, Tadeusz Kościuszko.
