Located in Gameti, Northwest Territories, Canada, Gameti/Rae Lakes Airport is a public airport that is operated by the Government of the Northwest Territories. The airport serves with a small terminal building and a gravel-surfaced runway at a length of 914 metres or 3,000 feet. Elevated at 221 metres or 724 feet above mean sea level, the airport can be found on the map using the coordinates 64°06′58″N, 117°18′35″W.

Gameti, formerly known as Rae Lakes and officially the Tlicho Community Government of Gameti, is a community in the North Slave Region of the Northwest Territories in Canada. The name Gameti is said to mean ‘rabbit-net lake’ according to the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.

Focusing on what the North Slave Region and the Northwest Territories have to offer, some of the destinations and attractions that shouldn't be missed include Great Slave Lake, Giant Mine, Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, the Wildcat Cafe, Yellowknife River, Ingraham Trail, the Gold Range, Northern Arts and Culture Centre, Nahanni National Park Reserve, and Mac the Moose, among others. The Great Slave Lake is considered the second largest of all the lakes to be found within the Northwest Territories, and is the tenth largest in the entire world. Some of the rivers that flow into the lake include Emile River, Snare River, Wecho River, Terhul River, Taltson River, Slave River, Yellowknife River, and Hay River, to name a few. The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre or PWNHC is a museum and archives handled by the Government of the Northwest Territories. It is home to a sizable collection of items that represent the territories’ people, and cultures. 

 

How to get around within Gameti 

There is not much information found on travelling within Gameti. The Northwest Territories, however, can be explored by car, air, and bus or tram. The areas of the Northwest Territories are best explored by car; there are car hires available that are cost effective. Lastly, within the area, Frontier Coachlines has connecting buses to Yellowknife, Fort Smith, and Fort Simpson, five, three, and two times a week, respectively. Frontier Coachlines also meets with Greyhound Canada, by the Hay River.   

 

How to get there
