Discover Westsound

Westsound Seaplane Base is, as the name suggests, a seaplane base situated adjacent to the community of Westsound on Orcas Island in San Juan County, Washington, United States. There are two runways; one designated 10/28 measuring 4,000 feet x 500 feet (1,219 metres x 152 metres) and 18/36 measuring 5,000 feet x 500 feet (1,524 metres x 152 metres). Kenmore Air offers flights to and from Seattle.

Orcas Island, where the community is located, is the largest of the San Juan Islands in the north-western area of Washington state. The island is in the shape of a horse shoe, with an area of about 57 square miles. The primary airport on the island is Orcas Island Airport, situated 1.9 kilometres north of the central business district of Eastsound (of which Westsound is technically still part of).

Orcas Island Historical Museum - The first museum of the Orcas Island Historical Society is the only object-based, interpretative heritage facility in the island. It features a permanent collection with about 6,000 objects, printed materials (such as books, newspapers, brochures, posters, and maps), and photographs relating to the history of the island and the life and culture of the Native American and early European-American settlers in the area. There is also an intact skull and partial skeleton of a 14,000-year-old Bison Antiquus, also called 'ancient bison'.

Orcas Island Artworks - The gallery Orcas Island Artworks features local arts and crafts. It represents over 40 artisans in the Orcas Island, specialising in various forms and mediums of art such as pottery, sculpture, glass, metals, prints, painting, and more.
