Discover Ufa

One of the major airports in Russia, Ufa International Airport serves as a gateway to the Volga Federal District. The airport welcomes visitors going to the various historical and cultural landmarks in the region in summer and the mountain skiing activities in winter. Two large runways, measuring 12,339ft and 8,245ft, respectively, cater to the departing and arriving planes. Three other grassy landing strips are also in the airport to accommodate small planes.

Safety is also a paramount priority for Ufa International Airport. It has radio approach and radar equipment ready for assisting pilots about to land planes during inclement weather. Travellers landing on the airport will find the terminal roomy with modern facilities and departments. Mobility is also convenient in the airport due to a considerable number of escalators, elevators, and telescopic ramps.

What to see & do

Various sights await tourists who come in the summer months. An impressive sight waits in Ufa in the form of the monument of Salavat Yulaev, a hero of the Bashkir who led the people to revolt against the imperial authorities in 1773 to 1775. The scenery around this landmark is particularly enchanting due to the nice illumination, which makes it pleasing to see even at night. Other tourists exploring Ufa will discover Lyalya Tyulpan Mosque, which exteriors make it a delight to see for architectural enthusiasts. The street-sweeper's monument in the city also makes such a sight, which shows the city's appreciation for the occupation and the people who help keep the city clean.

Other destinations to visit from Ufa include the Samara Art Museum, which features illustrious examples of Russian art such as the Boyarishina and other notable pieces. After going around the floors of fine art, there's the Lenin Memorial Centre to visit. The site is built around two family houses and a building featuring various permanent and temporary presentations. The exhibits display the family life and events that shaped Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, one of the most famous personalities in Russian history.

Kremlins are another sight to behold in the surrounding areas. Fortified central complexes which contain structures important to the heritage of the town or city can still be seen here. Nizhny Novgorod’s kremlin makes a majestic example. Pyotr Fryazin began work in the 1500s to build up the 13 towers and walls as high as 12 metres. Today, some parts of this kremlin function as government offices. The Cathedral of Archangel Michael can also be found here with a monument honouring heroes of World War II.

Watersports also make up a wide range of activities for tourists. Boating in the summer is also popular, with rafting tours for tourists who want to see the waterfront. Winter is also a fun time to visit the Volga district, due to the numerous opportunities to ski and sled down the mountain slopes. The thrill can be exciting, especially when travellers speed down in a purely white winter environment.

How to get around Ufa

From the airport, travellers can commute to the city using bus lines with numbers 101 and 110. Marshrutkas, or shared taxis, are also available for tourists going around the various sights. It can be confusing to decipher the sign boards, though, so one should find out which type of bus to board before leaving for a tour. Front desks at hotels can help one to determine which way to go and what type of public transport to use.
