Discover Takaroa

Takaroa Airport is an airport on Takaroa, an atoll in French Polynesia. The airport is located some 2.5 kilometres north of the village, and has a single runway in service. Airlines that travel to the destination include Air Tahiti, which serves routes going to and from Tahiti through the Fa'a'a International Airport and Takapoto through the Takapoto Airport.

What to see & do
Takaroa is a small island with a twin named Takapoto. They form one of the many atolls of French Polynesia, a country in the Pacific region, some distance away from Australia. And while it is typically surrounded by waters and is quite remote, travellers still catch the very rare flights to see the atoll's untouched beauty – a rarity in today's upbeat and fast-paced world. The white sands are inviting as it is comforting, and the surrounding waters – one that is open to the vast Pacific and one in the form of a lagoon – are simply marvellous. Enjoy water sports and activities such as kayaking, jet skiing, snorkelling, and diving (if you have equipment). Travellers may also visit one of the rare ballrooms of the Tumaotu, Tiara Kahaia, where an orchestra of local music occurs on Friday, and the impressive wreck of one 4 masts fails during a cyclone at the beginning of the century that completes the local landscape.

Outside Takaroa, travellers may also take a ferry ride to neighbouring islands such as Tahiti. Explore the heart of French Polynesia and wander on the country's capital, Pape'ete. Filled with waterfalls, lively backstreets, and cerulean to deep blue waterfronts, it is nature's finest gift to man. Also check out the mountainous and mystical inner forests with a 4WD tour, dive in an almost translucent lagoon, discover the archaeological sites, and even go whale watching!

How to get around within Takaroa
Like most islands and atolls, locals and travellers simply walk to get around the areas. Public transportation becomes a moot aspect as atolls like these are relatively small. Travellers, however, use ferries when transferring to another island.

How to get there
To get to Takaroa via the Takaroa Airport, the only scheduled service is provided by Air Tahiti through Tahiti's Fa'a'a International Airport. There is also a service from Takapoto Village, although to get there travellers should first pass Tahiti's airport.
