Why visit Naples?

Warm and earthy Naples has often been the most unloved Italian city, overlooked for fairtytale Venice, storybook Florence, or mighty Rome, but Naples has a touch of magic to it, and it is definitely worth some of your time. From its gorgeous sun kissed coast that runs into the Amalfi, to its charming piazzas, delightful trattorias and its engaging history that includes the tragedy of Pompeii. Fly to Napoli and discover why this is one of Italy's best kept secrets.

Things to do in Naples

Naples makes you work to discover its beauty, but when you do, you are richly rewarded. Start with some of its most lavish architecture, such as the 17th century Royal Palace, once a home to the Bourbon Kings, or the medieval Castel Nuovo, the five towered castle that looks plucked from an Arthurian tale. Tour the impressive aisles of the city’s impressive cathedral, or delve into the eerie pathways of the Catacombs of San Gennaro.

Then get to know this lively city, by sitting in one of its sunny piazzas with a strong Neapolitan coffee, or try a slice of pizza in this foodstuff’s birthplace. For night owls, the beaches hide popular clubs and bars, or head to the waterfront instead for great views of the water at sunset, and a slightly calmer evening.

For history lovers, there’s no greater destination in the city of Naples than that of Pompeii and the mighty Vesuvius. If you can, visit the National Archeological Museum first, as a tour there will give you an understanding of the history of this famed attraction. When you do travel to the archeological sites themselves, you’ll find that they are incredibly moving. See the remains of Pompeii, complete with escaping figures frozen in time by the molten rock that descended on this once thriving ancient city. This is an absolute must-see and is one attraction you will never forget.
