The Maiduguri International Airport is a public airport serving the city of Maiduguri, in the Borno State of Nigeria. The airport is found at the north-easternmost part of the country, with its home city sharing borders with the countries of Chad and Niger. Although dubbed as "international", the airport mainly serves major domestic flights to key cities, particularly in Abuja and Yola, via Arik Air and IRS Airlines, respectively. Moreover, the airport is elevated at 1,099 feet and has a single asphalt runway measuring some 9,846 feet. It is owned and operated by the Civil Government, and operates from 6:00 in the morning until 11:00 in the evening.

The Maiduguri International Airport is found in Maiduguri, a key city in north-eastern Nigeria. Sometimes referred to as Yerwa by locals, it is the capital and largest city of Borno State, and is popularly called "Home of Peace". The city was founded in 1907 as a military outpost by the British and has then grown rapidly in the recent years. With the city's growth comes its strength, and with its strength comes its beauty and economic prowess. The city's layout is one of the best in Nigeria, achieved through good urban planning and maintenance. Also, the city is home to three markets which include an ultra-modern "Monday Market" that projects a spectacular satellite image view, apart from keeping an ancient museum filled with information and artefacts that tell the story of the Maiduguri and Nigerian people. Tourists may visit the sites mentioned, although are advised to be careful especially when visiting churches or places of worship. Climate is relatively warm most of the year; but out of respect to the local culture, make sure to wear modest and comfortable clothing.

How to get around within Maiduguri

Maiduguri is the terminal station of one line operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation. It connects the city to the Niger Delta and Port Harcourt down south, although the rail system is poorly maintained. Most of the locals walk around the city centres, but travellers may opt to rent cars to go around and travel to other destinations as well. Generally, transportation in the city and in the country is one of the primary problems nowadays, with poor infrastructure begging for even some slight maintenance, so travellers should expect the worse in this aspect.
