The Lisbon Airport (LIS), also known as the Portela Airport, or the Humberto Delgado Airport, is the primary aviation facility for the capital of Portugal, and a large European transit hub. This airport has really good amenities across the board, with unlimited free WiFi, ATMs, currency exchange services, pharmacies, information desks, as well as lots of eateries to choose from and plenty of shopping outlets.

 

The airport is really close to the centre of town, situated only 6km away, and you can reach central Lisbon via the metro, buses, shuttles and taxis. The latter option is the most expensive, but still very reasonable, with a typical fare being around 10-15EUR ($15-22).

Things to do in Lisbon

 

When you’re in Lisbon, it’s hard not to notice the fantastical fairytale-like castle that sits atop a hill in Alfama, overlooking the city. Then combine a tour of the UNSECO listed 16th century Jeronimos Monastery with the Torre Belem Tower on the waterfront, and its accompanying Monument to the Discoveries. These are all extremely important site, as they are in tribute to the Age of Discovery, where this nation played an integral role in Europe’s exploration of Asia, and will add a fascinating insight for tourists learning about Portugal.

 

Best time to visit Lisbon

 

·         Autumn (September-October) and spring (March-May) are the most pleasant months to tour Lisbon city. The days are usually in the 17-22°C range, and the prices are much lower than in summer.

·         Winters are pretty cold, but this is the best time to visit for anyone travelling on a samll budget.

·         Summers are hot, but beautiful, with daily highs of 27-30°C. Expect the city to be full of life, but fairly crowded.
