Julius Nyerere International Airport is the international airport serving Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's largest city. It is situated 12 km southwest of the city centre, residing at an elevation of 182 ft / 55 m above mean sea level. The public airport, named after Tanzania's first president, provides flights to and from various destinations in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park is located near the city of Morogoro. Arranging a day trip to the national park from Dar es Salaam is possible and easy, if you choose the right tour operator. Established in 1964, the park encompasses an area of 3,320 km2. Selous Game Reserve borders Mikumi to the south. Other natural areas that border the park are the Uluguru Mountains and Udzungwa Mountains. The Tanzania A-7 highway crosses right through the park, dividing it into two areas featuring partially distinct environments. The northwest part contains savannah and impressive rock formations of the mountains Rubeho and Uluguru, while the southeast area is less rich in wildlife. In general, the fauna present in Mikumi National Park includes several species characteristic of the African savannah.
Makumbusho Cultural Centre & Village Museum
The cultural centre in Dar es Salaam features an open-air site, with many furnished houses and gardens representing over 20 of Tanzania's tribes. Expect dance performances on weekends and public holidays, as well as demonstrations of traditional arts and crafts. There is also a restaurant on-site that serves Guided tours can be arranged.
Pugu Hills Forest Reserve
Pugu Hills Forest Reserve is a forest reserve located in the Pugu Hills area, near Dar es Salaam. It is situated adjacent to the Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserve and is only about 20 minutes away from the Julius Nyerere International Airport. The Pugu Forest is known for being part of one of the oldest forests in the world. It contains a large number of endemic species of both animals and plants. Visitors of the reserve can go trekking through paths that lead to its main attractions, such as a colourful local cattle market, bat-populated caves, and a cave that is sacred to the Zaramo people.
How to get around within Dar es Salaam
Central Dar es Salaam can be explored on foot. Other methods of transportation include the bajaj, a small, three-wheeled Indian vehicle that allows you to travel short distances for cheap, cycling, and hiring a vehicle. Cycling can be difficult, but if you think you will be perfectly capable of riding a bike in high-congestion areas, then go ahead. Just make sure you wear a helmet and have defensive cycling skills. There are local tour groups that even offer bicycling tours around the city. As for car rental, these can be arranged in advance, at the airport, or through most hotels.
