Tenerife is the star of the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago lying off the coast of Morocco, and one of Europe’s most sought-after holiday destinations. Things to do in Tenerife
Begin your tour of the island with its cultural attractions, such as the picturesque Spanish villages, such as mountainous Masca which is tucked away in the peaks of the Teide range, or seaside Garachico, one of the island’s prettiest villages, boasting cobbled streets, quaint restaurants and even swimming pools carved out of the volcanic rock it sits on.
For a taste of the renowned nightlife on nightlife Playas de las Americas have bars, clubs and lots of live music, though both Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos are also popular for evening revellers.
Of course, there are plenty of outdoor attractions in Tenerifte, and its most startling is the Teide National Park, a mixture of lunar-like terrain, mountains, and pine forests; ideal for enthusiastic hikers, and budding photographers wanting panoramic views of the island. However, if you have come for the beaches, then head to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, known for its golden sands, turquoise waters, and plethora of watersports.
Best time to visit Tenerife
· Tenerife is perhaps at its best during the summer, when you can count on the days being long and sunny and the water being warm. The average temperatures being a lovely 24°C.
· The shoulder seasons are good for catching a little bit of that waning summer sun, and snatching some low prices. May and September/October are the best to shoot for, when highs still reach 18-22°C.
· Winters are mild, averaging 15°C, but the season has slowed so taking advantage of Tenerife’s renowned nightlife might prove harder in the winter months.
Best time to book
· Flying to Europe from Australia can be expensive if you don’t organise your flights ahead of time. Look to book three monthsbefore you intend to go on holiday.

Arriving in Tenerife by plane
· Tenerife-South Airport (TFS)is the largest international hub in Spain’s Canary Islands. Fly there from Australia with carriers like Iberia, British Airways, Swiss Air, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Thai Airways, Etihad Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Aeroflot, AirBerlin, Air India, Aer Lingus, FlyNiki, Finnair, and American Airlines.
· The airport is well-facilitated, with ATMs, WiFi access, currency exchange, restaurants, cafes, bars, and lots of shopping outlets.
· This island destination will require at least two stops, usually in Dubai (DXB), Zurich (ZRH), Singapore (SIN), or Madrid (MAD).
Visa requirements
· Spain does not require Australian citizens to apply for a visa when visiting, and you should be granted a stay of up to 90 days on arrival. However, it is imperative that you check the visa requirements for this country prior to leaving just in case conditions change. Transportation to city centre
· A taxi ride to Playa de las Americas, or Santa Cruz cost approximately 80EUR ($117) and 35EUR ($51) respectively.

Where to stay in Tenerife
· Santa Cruz is renowned for its beaches, so if you want to be a water baby or simply lay on the warm sands, this is where you’ll want to book.
· Playas de las Americas is the nightlife hotspot of Tenerife, and you can find all sorts of accommodation in this part of the island.
· Or escape the commercial side of Tenerife and stay in a boutique hotelin Puerto de Santiago.
Useful tips before you go
· All tipping on the island tends to be around the 10% mark, but you do not have to tip in bars.
· It is safe to drink the water in Tenerife, but because the water is treated it can cause a little discomfort if you have a sensitive stomach, so bottled water is best in those situations.
