Magas Airport is also known as Magas Oskanov Airport, which is an airport in the Republic of Ingushetia near Ordzhonikidzevskaya that serves the capital city of Magas and the largest regional city of Nazran. The airport was named Magas, coming from the medieval capital of Alania. When translated from Ingush, the name means Sun City. Before, the airport around the year 1992 and earlier served as a Soviet military air base. The Magas Airport is sometimes referred to by the title of Magas Oskanov Airport, in honour of Soviet General and MiG-29 pilot Sulom-Beck Oskanov.

The airport is located in the Republic of Ingushetia, or most commonly referred to as Ingushetia. This place is a federal subject of Russia and is located in the North Caucasus region with its capital at Magas. Ingushetia is the smallest of Russia's federal subjects except for the three federal cities, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Sevastopol. It was established on June 4, 1992 after the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was split in two. Ingushetia is also home to the indigenous Ingush, a people of Vainakh ancestry.

There are two methods to go around the republic of Ingushetia and these are by bus and train. A train leaves from and to Moscow one time for four days and a daily bus leaves from Moscow to Nazran. There is also a regular bus service that goes around the republic for the locals and trourists to use for ease. Other than that, if one isn't familiar with the area of Ingushetia, travellers can also opt to use a taxi as there are many taxis going around the republic.
