The Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) is the busiest airport in Bangladesh. Passengers will find that there aren’t a huge variety of amenities here, but you can access two executive lounges, WiFi, a restaurant, duty-free shopping, and ATMs just outside of the Departures area.

Trains, buses, an auto-rickshaw and taxis are the main modes of transport between the airport and Dhaka. If you take an auto-rickshaw, this will cost about 100BDT ($2), if you take a taxi, it will come to about 400 ($7).

Thai Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Bangkok Airways, Dragonair, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, China Southern, and Biman run routes out to Dhaka.

Then see Ahsan Manzil, the official residence of the Nawab of Dhaka, the palace was constructed in 1872 and is also an excellent museum that you can tour six days a week.

Drop by the lovely Star Mosque in Armanitola, Saint Mary’s Cathedral, and the beautiful 11^th century Dhakeshwari Temple, a Hindu house of worship, and the oldest in the city. Each building calls to a different side and influence on Bangladeshi culture, and is worth a visit.

Then learn about the history of the nation and the city by dropping by the Bangladesh National Museum and the Bangbandhu Memorial Museum. Best time to visit Dhaka

·         October to March is the ‘cooler’ season in the country, which means it is about 21°C, ideal for sightseeing. If you prefer it a little warmer, visit between April and May, as the weather remains dry, and at about 30°C.

·         Try and avoid the monsoon season, which runs from June to August.

Arriving in Dhaka by plane

·         From Australia, a trip to Dhaka will mean one layover in cities like Kuala Lumpur, or Guangzhou (CAN).
