Discover Barcelona
Barcelona is one of Venezuela’s most important cities, culturally and historically. Visitors to this bright and cheerful coastal city will be able to wander through its colonial past as easily as they stroll through its streets, buildings and beautiful squares.
Things to do in Barcelona, Venezuela
One of the first things you must do in Barcelona is head to the Casa Fuerte, a building with many skins, this 18th century building was once a convent, and then a fort utilised to defend the city. Today, it lies in ruins, but has been cemented in Venezuelan history by being elevated as a monument to mark the country’s independence.
However, there is much more to explore if you are fascinated by Barcelona’s past. Take the time to tour the old part of town, and then visit the Theatre Cajigal off the Plaza Ronaldo, where you can watch both plays and musical concerts held in a gorgeous neoclassical building.
Outside of the city, there is plenty for nature enthusiasts and holidaying sunseekers to appreciate. Take a boat to the islands just off Barcelona’s coast; Borracha, Las Chimanas, and Margarita, and secure your own secluded stretch of sand or pretty cove to sunbathe on.
Otherwise, take a trip out to Puerto La Cruz, where you can enter into the Mochima National Park, a vaunted Venezuelan beauty. Here you can delve into the deep and dark depths of the South American jungle, or be swept away by the remarkable beauty of the beaches and inlets of this park.
