Shirak International Airport or Gyoumri Airport is the international airport intended for public use, serving the city of Gyumri, Republic of Armenia. Gyumri city is the capital of Shirak province, which the airport also serves. The air facility is situated some 5km from the city centre. Shirak International Airport is the second largest airport in the country, while Gyumri is the second largest city. The airport is owned by the General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia and operated by Corporation America's Armenia International Airports CJSC. It resides at an elevation of 5,000 feet / 1,524 metres, with one runway with an asphalt surface and 02/20 direction.

What to see & do

Mariam and Yeranuhi Aslamazyan Sisters’ Museum - Opened in 1987, the museum features works of Soviet painter and recognised People's Artist of the Armenian SSR, Mariam Arshaki Aslamazian, and her sister and fellow painter Yeranuhi Aslamazian. The two-storey building features not only the sisters' paintings, but also graphics and ceramics by the sisters.

Marmashen Monastery Complex - The 10th century Armenian monastic complex overlooking the left bank of the Akhurian River, 15km northwest of the city centre, consists of five churches near the Marmashen village. The style of the buildings is very similar to those in the Khtzkonk Monastery in the town of Digor in Turkey.

Brewery Tour - Beer has been produced in Armenia since the ancient times, and there are currently five breweries in the country. Two of these beer factories, namely Gyumri Brewery and Aleksandrapol Brewery, are located in Gyumri. Visitors of the city can book a Brewery Tour to one of these famous beer factories and observe how Gyumri Beer is brewed and packaged. You may even taste the beer in its different stages of production!

Dzitoghtsyan House-Museum of Social Life and National Architecture - The house-museum of the Dzitoghtsyan family showcases elements of the daily urban life of Gyumri, a collection of the Alexandropol social life characteristics, and local cultural and architectural attributes of Gyumri.

How to get around within Gyumri

The town centre itself is a walkable area, as the streets are safe and you can see the stars in the sky as you walk around on warm summer nights. Beyond the centre, a vehicle is required. Taxi service is available and inexpensive; taxis come with a meter so passengers need not haggle with the driver for the fare. There are also local mini vans that run every day, but there are no scheduled departure and arrival times. Mini buses depart when full, usually when there are about 15 passengers. There are no rental companies in Gyumri. Visitors can get in and out of the city through the Gyumri Railway Station, which has the following routes: Gyumri - Sanahin and Gyumri - Yerevan. The train station is in Kayaranamerts Square, at the eastern end of the streets Tigran Mets and Gorki.

Shirak International Airport or Gyoumri Airport is served by three airlines: Ural Airlines, VIM Airlines, and Saratov Airlines. Ural Airlines links Gyumri with Pulkovo Airport in Saint Petersburg, Russia, while VIM Airlines and Saratov Airlines have flights to and from Moscow Domodedovo Airport or Domodedovo International Airport in Domodedovo, Russia.
