Ulanhot Airport is an airport serving the city of Ulanhot in People's Republic of China. The airport is served by the airlines Air China, China United Airlines, Tianjin Airlines.

Ulanhot is the administrative centre of the Hinggan League, in the east of Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region in North China. The region is divided further into three regions: Central Inner Mongolia, Eastern Inner Mongolia, and Western Inner Mongolia. The major cities are Hohhot, Baotou, Chifeng, Dongsheng, Erlian, Hailar, Manzhouli, and Wuhai. Ulanhot is not a 'city' in the strictest sense of the word. Rather, it is a county-level city, which is a county-level administrative division of the mainland. Ulanhot city was formerly known as Wangyehmiao, and was the capital of the Inner Mongolia Region between 1947 and 1950.

What to see & do

There aren't too many tourist destinations in Ulanhot itself, but there are other things to see and do in the Inner Mongolian region.

Zhaojun Tomb – 9km south of the Inner Mongolia region's capital Hohhot (formerly Kweisui) is the Zhaojun Tomb. The tomb is situated by the Da Hi River, and is an honorary tomb of a commoner woman from the Chinese Han Empire who was the wife of a Xiongnu Chanyu, or a nomadic supreme ruler from the Xiongnu clan. Considered as a landmark, the cemetery covers an area of 13,000m2, with a 33-metre mound containing the woman's (named Wang Zhaojun) coffin. However, Zhaojun's cause of death and her real final resting place are unknown.

Wudangzhao Monastery - Situated 70km northeast of Inner Mongolia's largest industrial city Baotou, is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery. Wudangzhao Monastery is also called the Bada Gele Monastery, its Tibetan name, which means 'white lotus'. Wudangzhao on the other hand means 'willow' in Mongolian. The monastery is the largest and best preserved lama monastery in the region. It comprises three living Buddha residences, a funeral hall with several relics of Buddhas, and six halls: Suguqin Hall, Dongkuo'er Hall, Queyiri Hall, Dangge Xide Hall, Ahui Hall, and Ribenlun Hall. There are about 1,500 Buddhist statues and several fine murals that represent beautiful landscapes, traditional customs and myths, and historical characters.

Heshigten Global Geopark - The Heshigten Global Geopark covers a 1,750km2 area of UNESCO Global Geopark located in Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City. The site contains eight areas: Arshihaty granite forest, Qingshan granite mortars, Dali Nur volcanic landscape, Huanggangliang Quaternary glacial remnant, Reshuitang thermal springs, Pingdingshan scenic Quaternary cirque group, Xilamulun River canyon, and Hunshandak sand land. Each area boasts of beautiful sceneries and geological significance.

How to get around within Ulanhot

Inner Mongolia's central area is connected to a rail route that extends from the provinces Liaoning and Jilin through the city of Tongliao in the east. Taxi and bus service are available.

Ulanhot Airport operates flights to and from Hohhot Baita International Airport in Hothot city, Ordos Ejin Horo Airport in Ordos city, and Shenyang Taoxian International Airport in Shenyang city, as well as the Beijing Capital International Airport and Beijing Nanyuan Airport. Inner Mongolia has nine public airports, the largest of which is the Hohhot Baita International Airport in Hohhot.
