El Fasher Airport also goes by the name of Al Fashir Airport. The airport serves El Fasher or Al Fashir, which is the capital city of the North Darfur state in the country of Sudan.
El Fasher Airport has two runways namely 05/23 with an asphalt surface measuring 2,970 metres by 45 metres and 18/36 with a gravel surface measuring 1,527 metres by 45 metres.
El Fasher Airport is located in North Darfur, which is one of the wilayat or states of Sudan. North Darfur is one of the five states that compose the Darfur region. North Darfur has an area of 296,420km² and it is estimated that the state’s population is at 1,583,000, as recorded in 2006.
What to see & do
Begrawiya - Tourists can check out the ancient royal cemetery along with the picturesque pyramids that surround the area, making it one of the most spectacular sights in Sudan. The history of this place dates back to when the Meroitic Pharaohs thrived from the eighth century BC until a combination of encroaching desert and marauding Abyssinians put an end to Begrawiya's use as a royal cemetery in AD 350. It is said that some of the tombs' antechambers contain well-preserved hieroglyphics. Visitors will be overwhelmed with the total of about 100 pyramids, or remains of pyramids in the location.
National Museum - This place is considered as the best in the country because of its breathtaking exhibits. The ground floor covers the rise and fall of the kingdoms of Kerma, Kush, and Meroe. Tourists can look forward to the stunning royal statues and preserved 3500-year-old artefacts from Kerma; and upstairs, there are numerous medieval Christian frescoes removed from the ruined churches of Old Dongola and elsewhere. Outside the museum, there are rescued temples that are worth to view.
Naqa & Musawarat - Musawarat is said to be the largest Meroitic temple complex in Sudan. Its purpose up to this day remains unknown, though it's believed to have served as a pilgrimage site.
