Why visit Brussels?

The beautiful city of Brussels is somewhat of a European crossroads. The capital of a country that boasts three national languages, is the headquarters for the EU, and a major international centre, you can really feel connected to the whole world while walking the quaint cobbled streets of Brussels. Wander through the galleries of famous museums, gaze at the art and artefacts of this city’s collections, enjoy the thriving nightlife of this city, and of course, sample the legendary Belgian chocolate.

Things to do in Brussels

Spend your first day in Brussels exploring the city’s atmospheric Old Town. Start in the Grand Place (Grote Markt) where you can admire the guild houses that encircle the square, and visit some of the stunning landmarks that have made this plaza so famous. See the 15th century Town Hall, and observe the incredible tapestries that adorn the many chambers and banqueting halls of this lavish building.

From this point you are in close proximity to many of the city’s most celebrated sites, such as the Gothic Saint Michael Cathedral, the Mont des Arts, the Notre Dame du Sablon Church, the beautiful Royal Palace, and the lovely Parc du Cinquantenaire. In this last you can also dip into the Royal Art and History Museum. But if you’re really keen on touring the best of the best, head instead for Royal Museum of Fine Arts, and the Comic Strip Centre.

Of course, if you are staying in Brussels, you must spare a little time for visiting the Manneken Pis, a small bronze statue of a cheeky little boy urinating into the fountain. It is a delightful quirk of Brussels, and stands in stark contrast to the grand architecture that makes up most of this city.
