What to see & do
Ahe is primarily known for the several pearl farms in its lagoon. Ahe Atoll belongs to the commune of Manihi, one of the northernmost of the Tuamotus, in the King George subgroup. It consists of the atolls of Manihi and Ahe. Manihi has an oval-shaped lagoon that extends 27 kilometres long and eight kilometres wide, and is surrounded by islets. The lagoon is popular for snorkelling, wherein it boasts of beautiful and diverse marine fauna which includes the manta ray. The lagoon can be accessed via the pass located close to Manihi’s southern end. Manihi atoll is also known as the original home of the highly prized Polynesian black pearls, as well as the Pearl Beach Manihi resort. An unobstructed view of the sunset can be best seen at the airstrip at Manihi Airport. During the night, an enjoyable activity here includes stargazing, as the atolls are not interfered by the city lights. On Wednesday nights, there is a free guided tour offered in Manihi.
