Nice rooms and wonderfully kind people
We stayed at Mountain faro for two nights. On arrival, we were greeted warmly and was advised of the possible tours in the area. The room was clean and comfortable and has a great shower. The hotel kindly arranged our visit to the butterfly garden and our transport to the cloud forest. Breakfast was enough, and there was a pot of coffee and chilled juice both mornings. Because we visited the cloud forest our final morning and it was wet we asked if it may be possible to keep the room a little longer to shower and warm up on our return and this wasn't a problem at all.
Three restaurants and a small store close by, a slight steep hill to the property, but this is the whole of monteverde!

Disgusting racists! They called the police on me because I asked for receipt when I was being overchrged.
I booked the Horseback riding, hike in Cloud forest when I called Tripadvisor the man on the phone told me to book this room. I called Lady, who has no clue how to be one. She was very kind and said they only accepted cash. So I went looking for a bank and walked back to pay her but the doors we locked. So I did and tried the next day, surprise the doors were locked, so I called her and she never came back. It was only 80 for 2 night but when I tried to pay her in Colones she kept changing to total. I then said no, I want to pay in US dollars only because she cant take advantage. I asked a couple that was staying next door and they were being overcharge by Lady over transportation that is included in there package. Lady spends ALOT of time running her mouth and not saving anything. She loves to waste time instead of just showing and getting paid. The room had mold and the TV stopped working. When the police arrived they said they were called because I was aggressive and I ask how? Did curse or raise my voice at any point the little brat said its my tone. They sent a little girl to come be the translator and she was dancing in front on my camera as I filmed. Thank God for the other guest that came out and made sure I was okay. Me being me and refusing to let the vile people traumatize me for no reason. On the check out I put the room key in toilet. Lol Do you that I took my group shuttle heading to La Fortuna and Lady radio the drive to stop the shuttle and call the police again. A whole other driver got involve to yell at me while other passengers were there. To hold up everyone else while they yelled in Spanish at me. I assume the police refuse to come out a second time so we proceed to the boat. Smh. I am SO blessed God put the right people around me who literally embraced me and didnt allow anyone to harm me. You dont have to put up with racism, you CAN GET THEM BACK!

We are at a complete loss for words regarding this scathing review that you’ve felt compelled to share with us as well as the entire TripAdvisor community. I believe that the things that you mentioned in your own comment attest to the type of client that you are.
We should indicate that we have never suffered the abuse that you made our staff go through, that is, from your refusing to pay to your inexcusable ripping apart of our guest room on the property.
Honestly, how dare you smear food all over the new mattress and bedding, flush the room and safe's keys down the toilet, humiliated the receptionist because of her short stature, treat disrespectfully our underaged girl and call her a useless little brat, and uploaded pictures of her online that luckily we were able to erase to keep her safe (YOU BROKE THE LAW).
Regarding racism, we regret COMPLETELY to differ with your opinion, considering that we are a family-owned and operated business with excellent manners and principles and have NEVER received any complaints about something like this and the reviews below and above yours speak themselves, but we understand how someone like you would be the first one.
To your shock, the culture, color, religion, customs, etc. have not and will never affect the way we treat our guests, and it is very important to clarify that we never mentioned anything about it and that you were the one who called yourself that way, and you were the one that called the police because you said that you felt in danger. By the way, the other guests that came out there actually were telling you to be more respectful with the person in charge of the property at that time, and they can attest that we were not mistreating you or being racist.
I don't even know why you are arguing about the price if the receptionist was charging you the price you had agreed to pay in cash. We are not accustomed to overcharging anyone and it is something that has never happened
We believe that the majority of comments on TripAdvisor prove that we strive to run a professional service at a high standard. Our staff has been known to go above and beyond and comments will attest to that. We take our communication with clients very seriously and we go to great lengths to be available to our clients before, during, and after their stay. However, I want to clarify that communication with you was complicated, and on the last day, you left our property without checking out, returning the keys, or paying for your stay. Therefore we followed the vehicle you hopped in to kindly ask you to return the keys and pay for the stay, and your answer was very rude laughing while telling us that you put the keys inside the toilet and flushed it, and refused to pay for the nights, much less for the damage caused to the property.
We take our job very seriously and we learn from criticism. And although your criticism is not at all constructive, we appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion, it is an opportunity for us to avoid future misunderstandings.
As for our conclusion, we have received guests from all over the world and we always put our heart and soul into serving them and exceeding the expectations of each one of them because it matters to us. Every guest matters to us, and even though we tried our best with you, you seemed to only want to spend your vacation annoying our staff members, traveling for free since you did not pay for services received, or even caring as to how to affect others. Furthermore, you are the first guest to reach levels of intrusion and disrespectfulness that are totally unacceptable, we even put up with you doing all this damage, although no one should put up with this type of abuse. You are undoubtedly like grandstanding and by all measures, an unacceptable abusive guest.

Comfortable stay
Stayed in the upstairs bedroom. Plenty of room for a family of six. 2 queen and a bunk bed. FYI, top bunk bed has no rails. Very large shower. Beautiful view from windows. Very comfortable.
The breakfast was included.

Everything you need for a quick stay
Tidy basic rooms with everything required for a 1 or 2 night stay. Close to restaurants and small shops. Services was wonderful, and went out of her way to cater for my gluten free breakfast.
Residential neighbors were a little noisy at times, nothing dramatic though.

Reasonable place for one night
This is a family run b&b with a very pleasant and helpful lady at the reception. Accommodation itself is pretty ordinary, small and noisy rooms (very poor sound insulation) while the bathroom is contemporary and cosy.
Breakfast was extremely disappointing and unpleasant - could have been much better considering the bucks! The approach is a rather tough and rugged walk/drive.
Overall, okay to crash in for a night but definite scope for improvement.

We are very sorry you had that inconvenience with your room. Since we are located in a high altitude, and it's December, there are strong winds around Monteverde, so it is normal to hear them.
About the breakfast comment you made, we serve delicious fresh breakfast every morning with nice ambience. Breakfast has good options and everydoby says is very good. We are really sorry you did not like it.
Monteverde is located up in the mountains and having hilly roads is normal everywhere you go, however we never get complains about walking or driving to our hotel. We are just about 8 minutes away from the town of Santa Elena where you can find and enjoy lots of colorful attractions: cafés, restaurants, gift shops, minimarkets, ice cream parlors, local salons, live music, and much more.
We will take a look at the observations made and we appreciate you letting us know about them, as we seek to improve day after day!
We hope you give us another oportunity in the future so we can show you how great can be staying at our family run property!
