As soon as we crossed the border to South Carolina, I could feel that something was different. We went to the famous Myrtle Beach, and I understood finally why it was such a popular destination. The beaches were just so welcoming, comfortable, and peaceful! Walking on the beach, even in the winter, was one of my favorite memories of the trip.

South Carolina is the heart of the Southern American Revolution and the heart of the Civil War. There is everything for a history buff to see and do.
As a Carolina girl for 4 years, and spending my childhood visiting my grandparents here, South Carolina was a time in my life full of beauty, old-fashioned values and occasionally, a cookie-cutter ignorant mentality that I could not adapt to nor approve. Southern Hospitality in South Carolina is real, but so is palpable racism and a sense that the Civil War happened yesterday. There is a paradoxical mix of charm, elegance and loveliness countering the preachy, hateful and intolerant messaging you hear on a constant basis. South Carolina is a state of natural magnificence, with its lush palmettos swaying in a humid breeze, the smell of salt water and fresh air along its shores, and windy romantic dirt roads. It is a time capsule of a simpler life; one with its shadows and its truths.
