Flying With Lion Air

As one of the largest low cost carriers in Southeast Asia, Lion Air is a popular and affordable airline that operates over 36 routes across Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region. Headquartered in Jakarta, this young airline established itself in 2000 with the motto “We Make People Fly”, keeping to that ethos, Lion Air offers its passengers value without sacrificing comfort or service.

Why Fly With Lion Air?

Ways To Check-In

Online check in is available from 24 hours up to 4 hours before your flight’s departure. You can also check in at the airport if you wish, as there will be manned desks run by Lion Air. If you are flying within Indonesia, the airline recommends you head to the airport with at least 30 minutes to spare, and 45 for international flights. However, if you are checking bags, or flying out of a busy international airport, it is worth leaving a bit more time, roughly an hour for domestic journeys, or two hours for international flights.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

Despite being a low-cost carrier, Lion Air does offer a free checked baggage allowance. For Business Class ticket holders, this is a weight allowance of up to 30kg on domestic flights, and 20kg for international ones. For Economy passengers, you can check in up to 15kg on either domestic or international flights. Excess baggage is charged by the kilo, and can be quite expensive, so keep that in mind when packing your bags.

Hand luggage on Lion Air must weigh 7kg or less, and come to dimensions of 23cm x 34cm x 48cm. All passengers may bring at least one personal item with them, such as a handbag or briefcase.

Lion Air offers business and economy seating to passengers for both domestic and international flights.

Booking Fees

Lion Air offers convenient electronic payment methods. Passengers need only their Booking Code (PNR) and the Payment Code. E-payments can be done using VISA or MasterCard credit card, through ATM (applicable only in Indonesia), via Internet banking (CIMB Clicks, Mandiri Bank, BNI Bank, Klik BCA, Bank Sinarmas, and Mandiri Clickpay), through mobile (Permata Shop from Bank Permata and Go Mobile from CIMB Niaga), SMS, and Mandiri Banking services.

In-Flight Service

There are no meals served on Lion Air, as this is a low-cost carrier, so it is advised that you purchase snacks once you are past the security checks if you think you will be hungry or thirsty on the flight.

It is worth bringing flight-safe devices, or reading material as Lion Air will not provide entertainment.

On-Time Performance

Lion Air’s on-time performance as of 2016 is decent, with 70-85% efficiency ratings.
