Need some more inspiration on which popular hotels to book and where? Here are some of our top picks for Romantic Valentine’s getaways.

1. The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali

This beach hotel is one of the most beautiful hotels in Bali. There are palm-fringed pools, tropical gardens and bedrooms filled with locally crafted furniture. Seminyak beach is just a few metres away, as is popular surfing spot Legian beach, so if you’re a water sports fan working out where to stay in Bali this is your spot. Travelling with kids? Don’t let that stop you enjoying a candlelit dinner – there’s a babysitting service as well as a video games area. There are three restaurants, but for local cuisine it’s got to be Husk, where specialities include prawn served with coconut.

2. QT Sydney

The QT Sydney has taken on two Sydney icons – the Gowings menswear story and State Theatre buildings – and re-imagined them into a 200-bed hotel with 12 room styles. The renovation has boldly kept many of the buildings most distinctive features, such as the blend of Gothic, Art Deco, and Italianate influenced architecture that form the dazzling exterior of the building. The design-led approach doesn’t stop with the building as all staff wear quirky avant-garde uniforms and the lift includes technology that adjusts the music according to how many people enter the elevator.

3. The Terrace Hotel, Perth

The 30-room Terrace Hotel evokes the Gatsby era with its focus on elegance and luxury. Black marble and gold bathrooms add to the feeling of opulence. Formerly St Georges House, the historic site was saved from demolition in the 1980s and renovations have restored the heritage-listed building to its former glory. The Terrace is walking distance from the CBD and the glorious Kings Park. With only a limited amount of suites, you will need to book ahead to secure a bed.

4. Adelphi, Melbourne

In Melbourne, it’s hard to go past the modernist Adelphi in the heart of the food, bar and boutique precinct of Flinders Lane. Its signature roof-top pool deck extends out over the street with a glass bottom allowing swimmers and pedestrians eye contact. The Om Nom Kitchen and Dessert Bar produces treats that look too good to eat. But the stand-out dining option is an eight-course degustation, vegetarian option provided, in the award-winning Ezard restaurant in the hotel’s basement. You’ll be grateful it’s just a lift ride back to your room.

5. Limes Hotel, Brisbane

Limes Hotel is the building block for a buzzing food and arts precinct centred around Alfred and Constance streets in Brisbane’s bohemian Fortitude Valley. It features 21 rooms plus a rooftop bar and cinema, which operates each Wednesday and Thursday. The neighbouring restaurants and bars are all connected so you can bring your dinner back to your hotel rom. Courtyard rooms include hammocks, a nod to the tropical lifestyle of Queensland.

6. Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

It’s hard to ignore the triple-pillared Marina Bay Sands which dominates Singapore’s skyline from absolutely everywhere. MBS is home to one of the world’s most recognisable and Instagram-worthy pools, (hotel guests only). Located 57 levels above the street, guests can take in sweeping views of Singapore from the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool. From the 157m long pool or poolside lounges, travellers chill out, cool down and relax from the city’s best vantage point.

7. Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok

With its spacious rooms and landscaped gardens flanking the river, the Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok is an elegant edifice on the city side of the water. Some rooms have balconies with panoramic river views. The hotel is very close to Saphan Taksin Pier and the BTS Skytrain station, so you can get around the city and take a river tour very easily. There’s a lovely pool right next to the river.
