Alice Springs, NT
The centre of Australia is one that’s high on many travellers’ itineraries, but many travellers who wanted had plans of visiting in 2020 had their plans put on hold. In the heart of Australia, Alice is the perfect base to explore the Red Centre. Day trips to Kings Canyon and Uluru show a side to the country that many coast dwellers don’t experience.
Half price domestic flights to Alice Springs will be available from five airports in Australia (Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth).
Avalon is Melbourne’s second biggest airport and the only Victorian destination on the list. Fly into Avalon to explore Melbourne CBD, just a 45-minute drive from the airport. Avalon is also close to Geelong, one of the best places to start a road trip along the Great Ocean Road. The Twelve Apostles, Bell’s Beach, and Apollo Bay await!
Half price domestic flights to Avalon are available from two airports in Australia (Gold Coast and Sydney).
Western Australia’s only spot on the list goes to Broome, situated in the country’s northwest corner and one of the most beautiful small towns in the country.
Broome is famous for the aerial shots of Cable Beach, where surf meets sand and red earth. Days can easily be spent lounging on the beach with a cold drink in hand, in between whale watching, snorkeling, diving, and hiking excursions. At Gantheaume Point, you can walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs, as there are footprints preserved in reef rock that date back over 100 million years. History buffs will love learning about the town’s past at the Broome Museum. Sampling drinks at Matso’s craft brewery is also a must.
Half price domestic flights to Broome are available from two airports in Australia (Gold Coast and Sydney).
Found on the northwest coast of Tasmania’s main island, slightly further out than Devonport, Burnie close to some of the world’s cleanest air. It’s where to go if you’re hoping to unwind and connect to nature.
Half price domestic flights to Burnie, one of three Tasmanian destinations on the list, are available from one airport in Australia (Melbourne).
Half an hour to the east of Burnie is Devonport, which is also available in this deal from Melbourne. Like Burnie, Devonport offers easy access to the pure air of the northwest corner, but is also closer to the murals of Sheffield and the big(ger) town attractions of Launceston. If you’re hoping to explore some of the best national parks in Tasmania, Devonport makes for a great home base to visit Cradle Mountain.
Half price domestic flights to Devonport are available from Melbourne.
With Queensland’s approach to COVID, the state often had its borders closed throughout the past year. Travellers will now be able to fly to Cairns, a jump-off point for the Great Barrier Reef. Spend your days beach hopping, snorkelling, scuba diving, and whale watching around one of the country’s most wonderful natural attractions. And when it’s time to dry off, Cairns is close to the Daintree Rainforest, a prime place to spot a cassowary.
Half price domestic flights to Cairns are available from three airports in Australia (Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney).
Gold Coast, QLD
Gold Coast is another Queensland destination that has been affected by a lack of visitor numbers. From beachside cafes to huge amusement parks, much of the economy in this region is directly linked to tourism. For winter sun lovers and families looking to get away in the July holidays, Gold Coast is a top contender to consider out of every destination on this list.
Half price domestic flights to Gold Coast are available from five airports in Australia (Adelaide, Avalon, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney).
Hamilton Island, QLD
Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays is a dream destination for many Australians. Beautiful beaches, non-existent traffic (most people get around the island on golf buggies) and a stone’s throw from the Great Barrier Reef have made it an ideal spot. Because of its high appeal, holidays to Hamilton Island do normally attract a higher price tag than many other domestic destinations, making this deal the perfect time to venture here.
Half price domestic flights to Hamilton Island are available from one airport in Australia (Sydney).
Merimbula is the only New South Wales location on the list, which may come as a surprise to some. This costal town is found in southern New South Wales, between Bega and Eden. Top activities include lazing by the beach, playing a few rounds of golf, whale watching, or explore wildlife sanctuaries.
Half price domestic flights to Merimbula are available from one airport in Australia (Melbourne).
Kangaroo Island, SA
Exploring our own local areas has been a theme of travel recently, and it doesn’t get much closer for those in Adelaide.
Kangaroo Island is South Australia’s only destination in the deal, but it’s only available to those who can easily get to South Australia’s capital. The flight from Adelaide to Kingscote takes little more than half an hour. Those who venture here will love spotting native wildlife like the namesake kangaroos, tammar wallabies, short-beaked echidnas, and tens of species of birds. A piece of advice? Pack a pair of binoculars or a camera with a decent zoom lens.
Half price domestic flights to Kangaroo Island are available from one airport in Australia (Adelaide).
Second in size only to Hobart, Launceston an exciting city with museums, art galleries, heritage sites, and dining options made with ingredients grown throughout the region. Launceston is also a great base for exploring Tasmania with a set of wheels–hiring a car in Tasmania is always recommended because of the relatively small size of the island. Head south to Hobart for a couple of days or head east and explore the Bay of Fires and Freycinet National Park.
Half price domestic flights to Launceston are available from three airports in Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney).
Proserpine is another option for those wanting to explore the Whitsundays although, unlike Hamilton Island, Proserpine is found on the mainland. The town itself is a nod to slower times, with art deco architecture and country-style accommodations.
Best known for Airlie Beach, Propersine is the gateway to some of the state’s best beaches and island — as well as the much loved trips out to the Great Barrier Reef.
Half price domestic flights to Proserpine are available from one airport in Australia (Sydney).
Sunshine Coast, QLD
The fifth Queensland destination on the list is the Sunshine Coast, just north of Brisbane.
The Sunshine Coast is blessed with great beaches, but there’s plenty more you can do here. Take a trek out to prime Yowie country, taste the wide array of local fruit or explore the many great national parks nearby.
Half price domestic flights to Sunshine Coast are available from three airports in Australia (Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney).
If you’re short on time and don’t fancy flying to Alice Springs, half price flights are available to Uluru itself. This gets you much closer to the national park in the heart of the Northern Territory — Alice is actually around 450km by road from Uluru.
It’s no secret what awaits you in Uluru — simply one of Australia’s national treasures. The giant sandstone monolith sits proudly by itself. Photographers are well-advised to get up for sunrise and stick around for sunset to see the rock in the changing light.
Half price domestic flights to Uluru are available from three airports in Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney).
