I would definitely recommend atrip to Chumbe Island Coral Park www.chumbeisland.com. It is a private marine protected area with one of the most diverse and stunning coral gardens in the world, fantastic food, a very friendly team and the endangered coconut crab which is the largest terrestrial crab in the world. There are only 7 bungalows on the island each completely self sustained making use of solar electricity, rainwater harvesting, composting toilets etc. It is an unforgettable experience! The conservation and education work on the island is funded completely through eco tourism A visit includes boat transfers, guided snorkeling with use of equipment, guided forest walk through the coral rag forest and a delicious, fresh meals of Zanzibari inspired cuisine, evening walks to see the coconut crabs and so much more. Don't miss out on this experience! You can find ore details and contact information on the website. K

It's been a long time since I've been here (1997), but this island was amazing - spectacular corals that are nearly exposed at low tide, so easily seen by snorkelers, a sizable forest, and great views from an old lighthouse. If I ever make it back to Zanzibar, it's on my list.
