Granted, if you want to go to a chain hotel all-look-alike box bedroom with a chain hotel all-look-alike box bathroom with chain hotel all-look-alike menus there are usually plenty to choose from but if you are visiting this prime national maritime heritage port with its plethora of naval history why not treat yourself to a prime national maritime heritage hotel with views and immediate access to this plethora of naval history - and at the same or lesser price?

Really Disappointing!

We booked an overnight stay here as we were just passing through. The room that we were given had a broken handle (part of it was missing) on the bathroom door so it couldn’t be locked. There was used soap in the shower and what looked like a French Fry left in the toilet bowl. The bathroom floor and the legs of the shower chair obviously hadn’t been cleaned properly for ages. The carpet had stains. We arrived in the evening and ate in the restaurant. The staff in the restaurant were friendly and the food was okay. We didn’t even ask for a room change as we could see that fresh towels had been put out so someone had ‘prepared’ this room for guests. We didn’t even want to think about what condition the other rooms might be in. We just decided to get to bed and leave as soon as we could in the morning. The mattress really needed replacing and sagged so you could feel the springs. When I reread other reviews for this hotel, I realised these weren’t new problems. Somehow I must have read the reviews for a different hotel before I booked it! The location was great but we would never stay there again. The hotel wasn’t just old and tired, it needs a thorough check and deep clean. We didn’t even get a reply to our email in which we listed our concerns about the room we were given. A very disappointing experience!

Fantastic Hotel great for transport links, Fantastic manager and staff. Stayed here for a weekend Royal Navy reunion.

Kirsty and her staff are so friendly helpful and accommodating. The service you get is first class the food is great the whole ambience is lovely. The rooms are well appointed and the bed really comfortable. It’s a Short walk to Gunwharf Quays and HM Dockyard. Bus stop right outside the hotel to take you into the centre of Southsea. Mainline train station opposite. This the second year we have had our Ships reunion here and I wouldn’t want it anywhere else. Myself and my wife will be returning for a weekend break. Highly recommend this hotel.

Poor

Booked a deluxe double room with a view, on arrival checked in was given room 4. On entering the room it was very dark. No seaview, 1 double bed a single bed through an archway was another single bed, bathroom was the size of a cupboard. Windows were frosted. If you opened a window you were treated with the aircon unit. No option to move room. When getting a refund they stated I booked two days ago when my email clearly stated over a month. Would not return.

Beautiful hotel second time there and we loved it again. Friendly staff, good food, lovely bar and restaurant perfect location for the dockyard.
