The Quintessential Recharging Experience
It's been nearly a year since a solo trip I took to Lisbon that really changed my life and improved my mental health like you only see in the movies these days. It was my third time in the city but my first at the Crespo Hostel, and I'll tell you this: hardly a day goes by that I'm not reminiscent of an altogether incredible experience that makes me want to come back soon and stay there again.
It is rather unfortunate that I was only circumstantially able to afford the privilege of staying in the best room in the house, with a double bed and a street-facing balcony, with heaps of natural lighting, all for myself. I was lucky that, on the occasion, said room was discounted and within the reach of this here broke self-employed artist and traveler.
I often say that, the more intense a trip, the more we need a comfortable bed and a cozy environment to come back to at the end of the day - gone are the times when I'd take notions of staying in a smelly shared hostel room, as I know this can really kill the enjoyment of exploring a new city with a rested mind. The Crespo Hostel is, so, the exact opposite of that: it is the quintessential homely corner where I could fully recharge after spending an entire day walking up and down the city, visiting countless museums, making friends, etc. The room is clean, tidy, very tastefully decorated. There were enough bathrooms on my floor for everyone to use and not be kept waiting - and they seem very rigorous with their rules against using a bathroom that wasn't assigned to your room, which I suppose is a good thing too.
This is a hostel that will perhaps cater best to the introverted travelers, or perhaps to couples or friends who are not looking to jumpstart the social party inside the accommodation. I do enjoy a good bit of hostel socialising and have collected many a good story of friends I met in hostels - but I have to say I really appreciated having a solitary return back to my room every night, unbothered by loud extroverts or messy people who skip showers.
The bathroom is very spacious and cleaned daily. There's no breakfast and only a small kitchen that came in handy a couple of times: but overall it's the kind of hostel for getting up in the morning and launching yourself straight out of the door to maximise your day's enjoyment, starting from the search for a good breakfast nearby. And there's no shortate of options. For lunch, I can really recommend the restaurant O Banquete, only a few steps from the hostel. Walking distance from town and even if you're ubering around you shouldn't have to spend much anyway.
For a year now I've been periodically checking the Hostel Crespo to see if any more crazy promotions would appear. I dream of the day I'll be able to go back there and stay in that same room again. I mean, I could also hope to start making a decent living wage that would make it possible for me to travel and stay in a nice hostel room like this - but, given the present cost of living crisis, I'd say it's safer to bet on a miracle promotion like the one I found a year ago.

Fatal, they cancel because they feel like it without explaining
We had a Reservation confirmed for over a month. A week later they say that the card with which they withhold payment is not worth (because the payment is made in the accommodation), I put it again , they refuse it, I put another and cancel our Reservation , I contact to see what happens and what our cards are not worth , I offer to do bizum or transfer, they do not answer anymore . I think it's a shame, a week away from leaving us without accommodation. We've got another one obviously, but we wasted a few hours finding something to fit. I think it's a shame, and I just hope you don't think of charging our cards. It's reportable.

Experiences
The beds, although separate, were comfortable. The building is in poor condition, it was a bit scary at first, the room was really small, there was no curtain in the room, the internet was very poor or the signal was non-existent, shared bathroom as a negative point, noise from other guests. Away from everything.

A scenario that is nothing short of a complaint!
They literally left me outside the hotel with the baby because they forgot to advise that my reservation was no longer available. It is not known why or to whom my room was given. I only know that I had to look for another hotel on foot as soon as I arrived, with my whole family. Avoid it if you can!

Did not honor my request as promised. WILL NOT BE BACK
Was assured ground floor, but room on third level & I re-injured my arm Complained & he said he'd upgraded w/ 3 beds & patio. I did NOT need to lug my heavy bags up floors due to my age & my injury.
