Russell, a small town in the North Island's Bay of Islands, feels like a tiny New England fishing village. Originally a major whaling and shipping port--as well as New Zealand's first European settlement--Russell is now filled with vacation homes, seafood restaurants, and sailboats. Russell is quieter and cuter than Paihia across the bay.
This little town in the Bay of Islands, NZ is a must see. The best part about Russell is what there is to do there - nothing. Little, laid back, sunny, right on the sea - perfect!
Russell is a very cute little town. There are several restaurants available. It's kind of sleepy, not much to do.
Great little town that I briefly experienced when I took a day sail on the R Tucker Thompson
