For any film buffs visiting the country, Ait Benhaddou should probably be one of the first stops on your list. This superbly preserved Kasbah has seen its fair share of film stars in the past, with Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator both being filmed there. As a result of this, the Kasbah remains a highly impressive group of buildings and is now listed under Unesco protection. Well worth a trip out to see Morocco’s best Kasbah, regardless of whether you have seen any of the movies filmed here.

World Heritage Site located about 3 hours outside Morocco. The Ksar is beautiful and well worth the trip.

I stopped here for a few hours on my way to the desert and I'm glad I did. A UNESCO Heritage site, Ait Ben Haddou is a fortified city collectivly built together showing off a mountain of old Moroccan architecture. It is incredibly fun to explore! The vendors working within the city are very welcoming and urge you to wander around, It is like stepping back in time. Few people actually live there today, but if you happen to run into a family that does, they will invite you in to see their quarters for a few dirham of course. I met a really kind artist there who showed me his craft and talked to me about the structures in the city. I also think bargaining is a lot easier here than in the big cities, so save some shopping for Ait Ben Haddou!
