What a dream this Island is. It's close enough to Cancun and Playa Del Carmen to just go for a night or two, but it feels like a different world over there. If you love white sand beaches, turquoise sea, and incredible wildlife then Isla Holbox is for you.

Whale Sharks off of Isla Holbox: Last year my husband and I did the swimming with the whale shark tour. Though I was very excited to do it, all of my expectations were far removed from the actual experience. Looking into the eyes of this gentle shark is the utmost fulfilling moment one can have in a lifetime. This adventure was surreal and adrenalin pumping but in a spiritual sort of way! It's a dreamlike event you won't want to miss. This is without a doubt a bucket-list must. Remember to keep a respectful distance from the gentle giants, resisting the urge to touch them or to use flash photography.

This is the coolest thing to visit. It is a must to visit and swim among the whale-sharks. A unique experience. It is within 2.5 hours from Playa

Holbox is a small hidden paradise known for its white beaches and crystal water where time stood still, located just north of Cancun to get there take Highway 180 towards to Merida City, about kilometer 80th, take the detour to Kantunilkin town and continue to the port of Chiquilá. There you will take a ferry or boat to Holbox, boats leave every 2 hours, and you could also take an air taxi from Cancun since the island of Holbox is equipped with an air strip for small aircrafts. Once you arrive at the island you will have to find somewhere to stay there’s a wide selection of nice hotels all along the shore with nice accessible prices and incredible view literally the sand is at your toes. When it comes to activities you can visit the famous Island of Birds and enjoy the variety of bird species it has to offer, if you spot a huge pink blotch in the horizon don’t freak out that’s just the huge colony of Flamingos that live on the island. There’s also Yalahu, it is a fresh water spring that comes to the surface directly into the sea you can get there only by boat and it’s a 30 min ride from Holbox.
