Hotel is a short walk to Shinjuku Golden Gai. We were lucky enough to be able to check in early. However, our room was very small and dim. There wasn't any space to open our 28" suitcase fully.

Avoid, tiny rooms and nothing like as pictured

I have just checked into Shinjuku Granbell Hotel with my husband, our two young children (both under the age of four), and my mother and father-in-law. Regrettably, our experience thus far has been extremely disappointing.
Our travel agent had booked us into an economy double room, having been advised that it would adequately accommodate two adults and one child. Upon arrival, however, we found the room to be wholly inadequate in size. The space is exceptionally limited, offering barely enough room to move, and the bed is hardly what one would reasonably describe as a double. It is entirely unsuitable for even two adults, let alone accommodating a child as well as luggage.
When we raised our concerns with the front desk staff, we were informed that any upgrade to a more appropriate room would incur an additional charge of at least £300. Extremely unhappy with this surcharge given I am travelling with a young family.
This was especially frustrating given that the inadequacy of the original room was not a result of any decision on our part. It should not have been advertised as suitable for 2 adults and a child. Also upon requesting to speak to a manager I was left around waiting for over around an hour to resolve this issue but to no avail. I'm currently sat in a mediocre economy double room, squashed in with a poorly toddler and my husband.
Overall, we have found this to be a very poor introduction to our trip and would not recommend this hotel to families or to any travelers expecting reasonable room sizes or flexibility in customer service. The rooms are also extremely outdated and looks nothing as advertised.

Lovely hotel, spacious rooms with amenities provided, the rooms were clean and the beds were comfy. The location is good if you like to go out drinking, clubbing etc however it is in the kind of red light district with love hotels everywhere so keep that in mind before booking. Overall 9/10

Located around 10 mins walk away from the heart of Shinjuku, you get to experience different sides of Tokyo. It was really interesting and an eye-opening experience to walk through Kabukicho - aka red light district of Tokyo but still feel perfectly safe. Room was clean although tiny!

The hotel was great for us as we enjoyed walking and drinking in the area and the room size did not bother us. However, I don’t think families would enjoy staying here and we saw some big rats in the garden outside of the hotel building.
