Superb hotel experience
This is a very pleasant 5-star luxury hotel situated in the Hoch Schwartzwald (Black Forest) in South-eastern Germany. The hotel is family-owned since 1446 (see picture)!!
The village is very nice, surrounded by woods with ample hiking trails. It's also not far away from the nice Titisee (Lake Titi) and the ski village Feldberg.
The hotel has a very nice feel with very welcoming staff everywhere, from reception to restaurant etc. The ambience is relaxed and pleasant.
We had the all-in (I think that's all they offer) , which includes a simple but good quality buffet lunch, high tea with lovely home-made pastries and dinner in their restaurant. They only use local producers (they list all their producers, many are organic).
Dinner is good, with high quality ingredients. It has mainly local dishes, which is very nice. I had the veal liver. Nice ingredients and flavours. The liver was a tad overcooked (calf liver should be slightly rose and tender). The same for my wife's medium-rare steak (which was medium at best), for which we paid €30 extra.
Wine selection was good.
Breakfast was truly superb with very good made-to-order omelettes etc.
Our room (a junior suite) was very spacious and nice. The beds were firm and good. Free minibar. The bathroom was also nice, but it had a rather small bathtub with shower (with a small shower head), a bit cramped at the end of the bathroom. They should have used a bit more of the overall suite space to create a large walk-in shower. Towels were of good quality.
The sauna/wellness area is beautiful and of high quality.
Overall an extremely nice hotel, run by pleasant, professional and courteous people. It's not cheap (€560 per night for two). But given the high quality experience and all F&B (except drinks at dinner) being included, it's good value for money.

Not really suitable for young families
Context: we are a family of 6, 2 adults and 4 children (2-13 years old) travelling through Europe for our summer holiday. We stayed here for 3 nights in July ‘26, but were due to stay for 4 (more below).
The hotel is in a beautiful setting and is very clean and tidy. We were excited to arrive after a very long drive and had read on the website about it being a family hotel etc and seen pictures of the pool and swings etc.
The reception staff we encountered on arrival were slightly stilted and we wouldn’t class them as particularly warm and welcoming. The older (German) guests then ram that point home by their reaction to seeing children playing, be it in the pool or even talking at dinner. There were many ‘tuts’ and ‘glares’ from these older guests, not just towards us, but all families there with children) and when we went to check out a day early (because we felt so uncomfortable), the (very nice this time) lady on reception asked our reason for leaving and when I mentioned the above she said ‘yes, we are well aware and we don’t know why the older guests come during the middle of the school holidays when they can come at any time of year!’. That said it all really… perhaps save this hotel for a visit during your retirement, but don’t bother if you have young children.

Just some appreciative feedback with great admiration
For years, I have been coming at least once a year as a guest for an overnight stay, DaySpa, or to stop by for dinner or a cocktail after an evening walk. It is the familiar atmosphere, the friendliness, and the cheerfulness that greets you upon entering and simply makes you feel good. I always love coming back.
The other guests are (with few exceptions) also friendly; everyone wants to relax. The staff always provides information with angelic patience and is always friendly, approachable, and helpful. They do not differentiate between guests, which is why you sometimes have to wait if something is being explained to another guest first. That is exactly what I like very much: Everyone is treated equally here. The fact that some guests complain is rather uncomfortable for me, because the staff is doing their best.
It is therefore important to me that I provide feedback for once on how much I admire your patience! Despite the hectic pace or the resentment and unfriendly guests they are faced with, the staff remains professional and friendly as soon as they turn to the next guest. I find that a remarkable achievement, and not everyone can do it.
One last thing on the topic of evenings in the lounge: I have been able to enjoy the music evenings a few times and think they are a wonderful idea - accompanied by a cocktail, which also taste very good without alcohol. Regarding the cocktails, I was always very well advised by the Italian bartender.
