Whitsunday Island is the largest - and arguably, most diverse and beautiful, although that may be impossible to quantify! - island in the Whitsunday Group off the coast of Airlie Beach. It's the island that gives its name to the archipelago because it's magnificent! This is where you will find the white sands of Whitehaven Beach, home to some of the whitest silica in the world - so soft and pure they supposedly sold it to NASA for use in the Hubble Telescope. Whether that's true or not, what is known, is that is a beautiful and unique part of the world.
The largest island in the Whitsunday Island chain is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world: Whitehaven Beach. The island is also home to dingoes, wallabies, pine trees, and stunning views. Not to be missed when you're in Queensland.
