'¡Buenos días!', a Castilian greeting of 'good day', is one of the phrases one regularly hears when going to Valencia, an autonomous region in Spain. Although the place has its own language and culture, it also uses Castilian to communicate. Other than these unique characteristics, travellers will be charmed with the natural beauty of the Valencian countryside. This province is profoundly Mediterranean with its striking peaks and wide coastal plains that invite one to relax and take in the view.

What to see & do

Alicante, for instance, is widely acclaimed for its festivals, such as the bonfires of San Juan in midsummer. Another attraction in Valencia region is the Elche, a place venerated for its historical legacy. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the various cultures, travellers will see various structures here such as the Alcasser de la Senyora. This stately building with its large tower and plinths served as the residence of the lords of the city from 11th to 13th century. Traces of Arab heritage in Elche can be found in the baths, while Catholic influence reigns in the basilica where the Misteri d'Elx, a lyrical drama, can be watched in August every year.

From Alicante, one can go to Castellon, located north of the region. Travellers who want to see the beach can stay here and enjoy relaxing views of the Mediterranean Sea. There's also the Islas Columbretes, a nature reserve of volcanic origin. It is very fascinating to look at due to its distinctive half-circle pattern, deep blue waters, and bare landscape. Other than the natural beauty spots of Castellon, the province hosts the Festival of the Entrance of Bulls and Horses, which tourists can watch with the excited populace.

Valencia province is also a sight to behold due to its unique architecture, art, and historical heritage. Travellers will be delighted in looking at the L'Hemisféric, a circular dome enclosed within a streel and glass shutter which can be raised by hydraulic lifts. This imitates the appearance of an eyelid, making it an architectural marvel indeed. Apart from this unique structure in the Arts and Sciences complex, travellers can visit the La Lonja de la Seda de Valencia, a group of buildings made in the Late Gothic design. It was once used in trading silk, which contributed a great deal in the commercial development in the 15th and 16th centuries.
