The Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport (SCL) services Chile’s capital city, Santiago. As the largest airport in the country, this facility also functions as a key aviation hub for much of South America, and you can find lots of domestic and international flights offered from this port. Seeing over nine million passengers a year, you’ll find that this airport is well equipped to deal with a traveller’s needs in transit.
In terms of facilities, there are cash machines and currency exchange counters, as well as a post office. Telephones are located throughout the terminals, and there are internet kiosks you can access. For any health related needs, you can find a pharmacy and a medical centre available to passengers. You can also find a handy tourist information centre if you are coming into the country for the first time and need a little direction.
If you’re feeling hungry pre or post flight, there are several restaurants, cafes and bars you can sit and grab refreshments in, and there are lots of shops, both boutique and branded that you can browse whilst you wait.
Qantas operates flights directly from Australia, but you can also find connecting routes with Air Canada, American Airlines and LATAM.
· The airport is roughly 17km from the centre of town, so without traffic it shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to drive. Take the 5 freeway headed into Santiago, and then take the exit marked Al Centro. Then merge onto Manual Rodriguez, and then left onto Compania de Jesus, which will take you right into the Plaza de Armas. Find the type of rental car that suits you quickly and easily online with our comparison tool, or hire one at one of the several car hire companies located within the airport.
· Buses serve both the domestic and the international terminals of the airport, and will take you right into town for about 1700CLP ($3.50) and take around half an hour. If you’d rather not take public transport, you can arrange for an airport transfer through us, and in advance.
· There are official taxis, which operate out of the airport, and these are usually blue and marked as official. The fares can be as low as 12,000CLP ($24), but as high as 30,000CLP ($60) if the traffic is bad, or you take it during an expensive time of day.
