Cheap Flights to Maui Kahului

A regional airport in the state of Hawai'i, Kahului Airport serves the island of Maui and has been offering full airport operations since 1952. Most of the flights coming here originate from Honolulu International Airport, with this route being one of the busiest in the United States. Around five million passengers venture to this port of entry every year, mainly due to Maui's seaside charms and outdoor adventures.

As part of the state legislature bills in 1998 and 2001, renovations for the airport are slated to provide larger facilities and lengthen the runways. An increase of fuel storage capacities and the construction of access roads are also currently planned. Other improvements in the following years include a new cargo building, an Alien Species building, and the construction of a new apron and additional 10 jetways, to name a few.

What to see & do

Maui, one of the main islands of Hawai'i is a paradise for outdoor lovers. One can venture to Haleakala National Park, which is topped by a large crater. From the crater's rim are splendid views of the land below, with various cinder cones along the mountain view. Two distinct sections can also be found here, where solid lava has formed and rare lifeforms roam around the area. Hiking and following lush trails on the slopes, as well as cycling across the countryside can also be included in the itinerary.

The Waikamoi Preserve, a windswept native cloud forest, supports one of the rarest ecosystems on earth. This 5,230-acre preserve provides habitat for 76 species of native plants and forest birds. A hike going here is strictly offered only by the park service, and makes a moderately strenuous adventure. From here, one can then turn to the Pu'u'ula'ula (Red Hill) Overlook, the highest point of Maui. The summit building lets one view the panorama from its wraparound windows and beholds the Big Island, Lana'i, Moloka'i, and even O'ahu.

One can then move to Pi'ilanihale Heiau & Kahanu Garden, a 294-acre ethnobotanical site with the largest temple in Polynesia. It was built back in as early as 1200 CE on an immense lava stone platform with a length of 450 ft. The final touches was done by 14th century Maui chief Pi'ilani, who is credited with the construction of several coastal fishponds in the Hana area. From here, one can turn to Ke'anae Peninsula, which is home to an 1860s church and a wild lava coast. The Ke'anae Congregational Church can be found here, made of lava rocks and coral mortar.

Those interested in the heritage of this part of Hawai'i can look forward to visiting the Whalers Village Museum, which features the hardships and routines of life at sea in authentic period photographs, ship logs, harpoons, and plaques. There is also a life-size whaling ship forecastle here and a full-size sperm whale skeleton in the premises. The Bailey House Museum is also an interesting addition in the itinerary, which lets one learn about living in the missionary times and look at a number of artefacts, from a shark-tooth dagger to a collection of several native bowls.
