How to get around within Nyurba
In addition to water ports, you can get around and out of Sakha itself by car. However, travellers should take note that the presence of permafrost makes it impractical to use asphalt on roads. Given this, roads in Sakha are made of clay; thus when rain in the region is heavy, the roads tend to get muddy.
How to get to Nyurba
There are only two ways to get in directly: via Nyurba Airport and the river port. Within the Republic of Sakha, however, passengers can be rerouted to Yakutsk Airport, which has an international terminal. Because water transport is the main means for turning over cargo, Sakha has six river ports and two seaports (Tiksi and Zelyony Mys). It has two federal roads that pass the republic: Yakutsk-Skovorodino (M56 Lena highway) and Yakutsk-Magadan (M56 Kolyma Highway). The Berkakit-Tommot railroad, which connects the Baikal Amur Mainline with the industrial centres in South Yakutia, is currently in operation. Construction of the Amur Yakutsk Mainline continues northward.
