Cheap Flights to Lyon

The international aviation hub, Lyon Saint Exupery Airport (LYS), is one of France’s busiest airports, and serves its third largest city of Lyon. Situated 20km south of the city centre, this airport is fairly new, having been inaugurated in the 1970s as a replacement for the smaller Lyon Bron Airport (LYN), which still operates as a smaller flight hub.

Around eight to nine million people travel through Lyon’s Saint Exupery Airport, and whilst they are in transit passengers will have the opportunity to utilise the currency exchange services, the post office, and the cash machines. There is access to free WiFi throughout the terminals, but there is a business centre available too if you are travelling for work. You can also find a pharmacy and a first aid centre if you are in need of some medical attention, or simply want to pick up some last minute items.

Routes to Lyon from Australia are often operated by Air France, British Airways, KLM, Swiss Air, United, Emirates, Brussels Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and Air Canada. Expect that these flights will likely include one or two stops, as this is a long-haul flight, usually diverted through Guangzhou (CAN), Abu Dhabi (AUD), and Paris (CDG).

Travel Information

·         Take the D147 to the D302 and continue on this road until you see the exit for N346 towards Paris. Then take the A42 for Lyon, and merge onto the Blvd Peripherique Nord. You will be able to join the Grande Rue de Saint Clair into Lyon. As for getting your hands on a vehicle, you can hire a care within the airport or book online with Skyscanner before you depart.

·         Trains leave the airport via the TGV station and connect to other destinations in France or nearby Italy. There is also a tram service that runs between the airport and town. This is a quick 30 minute journey, and costs around 16EUR ($23) for a one-way ticket.

·         If you’re an early bird, you can book airport transfers with Skyscanner, or you can take a bus or shuttle from the airport terminals into Lyon.

·         Although the drive into town is only half an hour, the taxi fare can be pretty hefty. Expect to shell out at least 60EUR ($85) for the convenience of picking up a cab just outside the airport.
