Fly to Entebbe, the colourful and atmospheric city on the shores of Lake Victoria in Uganda.
Entebbe International Airport (EBB)
Entebbe International Airport (EBB) is situated near the city of Entebbe, and is within fairly close proximity of Uganda’s capital city of Kampala. Operating since the 1920s, the Entebbe Airport now sees over one million passengers a year, and is pretty well facilitated. There are ATMs, a post office, access to an internet café, telephones, as well as a couple of eateries where you can dine before or after transit.

These include British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Eagle Air, Egypt Air, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Air Uganda, Fly540, Kenya Airways, KLM, Skyjet Aviation, South African Airways, Qatar Airways and Rwandair Express.
If you are travelling outside the African continent, then you will most likely have to connect in transport hubs that operate flights to this destination. These are usually Doha (DOH) and Dubai (DXB).
Getting into Entebbe
There are taxis outside the airport, which can take you into the city. You will find two types: the metered and marked Airport Taxis (which are the officially sanctioned cabs), or the unmetered ones where you have to haggle a price. The journey should only take around 30 minutes to get to the centre of town.
By public transport
There aren’t public transport options as such, but many of the hotels in Entebbe offer airport transfers, a few of the hotels even have desks within the airport itself. If you are interested in a transfer, then be sure to check with your hotel and arrange a pick-up when you book.
There are a number of car hire companies located within Entebbe International Airport, these are Europcar, Auto Relay Limited, Hertz and Super Shuttle International.
What can you do in Entebbe?
If you’re coming to Entebbe, the wildlife and the landscape are the major attractions, but they do not disappoint. Start your journey in the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, which doesn’t resemble the manicured European versions at all. Here, you will feel as if you are going on a jungle trek, where the lush vegetation is home to exotic birds and cheeky monkeys, who roam freely in the enclosed gardens.
For animal lovers, the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre is where you want to be. You can actually go on a mini safari around this park, and see many of Africa’s most famous land animals, from giraffe, to lion, ostrich, zebra, crocodile and wildebeest. You can see chimpanzees here, but to see these primates at their best, there is an island you can go to called Ngamba, affectionately known as Chimpanzee Island, where you can stay overnight and see these fascinating animals interact.
Lastly, there are the gorgeous and natural lake beaches that surround Lake Victoria, one of the Great Lakes of Africa, where you can look out to a horizon and see the blue sky meet the water. Fish for freshwater fish, sunbathe on the golden sands, or even take a boat trip around the 84 Ssese Islands that make up a stunning archipelago in the northwestern part of the lake.
When should you go?
Entebbe boasts an incredibly temperate climate, with year round temperatures hovering between 20 and 30°C. March through May is generally humid and with a fair amount of rainfall, so if you don’t like rain those months are best avoided. Otherwise you’ll find that even in the coldest month of July, temperatures rarely sink below 20°C.
