It also does not hurt that the state is open and welcoming to the LGBT community, which heightened its popularity.

A state with a stellar history, Berlin has always been the capital of the country ever since the 15th century when it was recorded as the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg in 1417. The contributions of each time period to the state made it a centre of culture, politics, media, and science in Europe. Travellers going here will find a strong economy backed by industrial firms and the service sector. The state is also a transportation hub for air and rail traffic, which makes it convenient to visit by travellers around the world.

What to see & do

It is easy to understand why Berlin is a popular attraction for travellers visiting Europe. Its landmarks alone are breathtaking starting with the Brandenburg Gate, a 26-metre high sandstone monument with a four-horse chariot on top and six large columns that let in traffic. From here, one can move on to the treasury of museums featuring various precious collections. The Old Museum, built in 1830, houses the Crown Jewels and royal trinkets. There is also Bode Museum where one can find a large collection of antiquities. The Pergamon is also a major attraction due to the reconstructed historic buildings. Those who love art should not miss visiting the Old National Gallery as it has various 19th century paintings on display.

Travellers with a penchant for architecture will have to take a detour to the Reichstag to appreciate its beauty. A renovation in the late 1990s replaced the dome which is now made of glass and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area. To see this, travellers will need to book their tickets in advance to get inside. From here, one can make way to the Cathedral, which is famous for its 75-metre high dome. The New Baroque style and the size of the cathedral make it an astounding thing of beauty. Three churches are housed here such as the Memorial Church, the Baptismal and Nuptial Church, and the Parish Church.

A trip around the illustrious landmarks and monuments of Berlin can be exhausting. For relaxation, travellers can visit the Grunewald Forest, a large spot of green covering 32 square kilometres. A mix of beech, birch, poplar, oak, and other types of trees can be found here. Visitors will also share the space with deer and wild pigs. Birdwatchers will also have fun due to the abundance of the winged creatures in the area. The Grunewald Forest is not all land space, however, as one can visit here various lakes, which add to the tranquil experience.
