Finding flights from Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO)

As the principal airport for the country of Ecuador, and its capital of Quito, the Muriscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) is the best port to make your way out of the country. Travel between the city and the terminal buildings via shuttles, buses, taxis and coaches, all of which will make the 36km journey.

In an hour you can be touching down in Cuenca (CUE), the UNESCO listed city, and filled with colonial architecture, this is a great place to spend a weekend. Of course, one of the most famous destinations you can reach within Ecuador are the remarkable Galapagos Islands. You can fly to Baltra Island (GPS), and start exploring the unique ecology of these islands that inspired Darwin’s seminal work, Origin of Species.

If you’re looking to take a break from Ecuador, but don’t want to spend too much time travelling, consider flying to the islands of the Caribbean, like the fascinating isle of Cuba, and its evocative city of Havana (HAV). Or fly south, into Lima (LIM), Peru’s largest metropolis with tons to do, and a great base for exploring the ancient city of Machu Picchu.

You can travel much further if you wish, and find yourself in cities and countries totally different from your own. In five or so hours you can spend time in the sprawling, gleaming city of Dallas (DFW) a city at the forefront of a lot of events in United States’ history and home to excellent museums, delicious BBQ food, and historical ranches. Or you can leave the Americas altogether and fly to the Spanish capital of Madrid (MAD).
