Finding flights from London Stansted Airport (STN)

Sitting roughly 48km from London’s centre, Stansted Airport (STN) is the third largest airport serving the capital, and the fourth busiest airport in the United Kingdom. Travellers departing from this hub can take trains, coaches, and taxis to the terminal building.

Despite being third on the list of London’s hubs, Stansted offers a staggering 130-odd non-stop routes to its passengers, with locations all over Europe and a select few in Africa.

This is an important operations base for the low-cost carrier Ryanair, so you’ll find most flights are with this airline. You can however, fly with FlyBE, Eurowings, British Airways, easyJet, Thomas Cook Airlines, and Pegasus Airlines.

Popular destinations from London Stansted Airport

From Stansted you can fly to other nations within the United Kingdom, and enjoy the best they have to offer. Like Belfast (BFS), Northern Ireland’s largest city and filled with history, visit the revamped waterfront, fittingly called the Titanic Quarter, where the great ship was originally built. Or spend time in the beautiful city of Edinburgh (EDI), topped by its medieval castle, and boasting breathtaking scenery of the Pentlands and the Forth of Firth.

Short hops can be made to a lot of fantastic cities in Europe, such as Poland’s picturesque city of Gdansk (GDN) on its northern coast, or Germany’s important cultural centre of Hanover (HAJ), a city that is filled with some of the nation’s most beautiful architectural treasures, such as the New Town Hall, and the Hanover Opera House.

Further afield, on a flight of three to four hours, you can enjoy the atmosphere of ancient Istanbul (IST) where you can stroll through the galleries of the Hagia Sofia, tour the Topkapı Palace, shop in the Grand Bazaar, and take a photo of the Blue Mosque at sunset. Tenerife (TCI) is another great option, especially if you are hoping to escape the inclement British weather. Spend time on the sun-kissed beaches or hike through the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Teide National Park.

For long-haul destinations to North or South America, the Caribbean, Australasia, Africa or Asia, then you should fly out of London Gatwick (LGW) or London Heathrow (LHR).
