Cheap flights from San Marino

San Marino, officially the Republic of San Marino and also known as the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, is located on the Italian Peninsula on the north-eastern side of the Apennine Mountains. It is an enclaved microstate surrounded by Italy and it measures only around 61km2 with a population of approximately 30,000 inhabitants. Its capital is the City of San Marino and the largest city is Dogana. The country of San Marino is also known to have the smallest population among the members of the Council of Europe.

Where to go

A declared UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Marino features various nature spots that would delight backpacking tourists. Mount Titano, the highest mountain in the country, is a major attraction due to its cliff formations and green foliage. Numerous trees such as chestnuts, oaks, and cypress can be found here with wildlife species such as roe deer, wild boar, foxes, and hedgehogs. Birds also nest here, which make the mountain a place to be for those who want to experience ecotourism.

Tourists will see three towers that stand out in the background of the mountain. Named Guaita, Cesta, and Montale, these edifices serve to protect the capital city from aggression of other clans. Guaita particularly stands out with its watchtower which let patrols guard San Marino from stealthy invaders. The restorations done in 16th century and 20th century also preserved the Old World look of the site, which added to its charm.

Architecture is also marvellous in the historic capital, which shows itself in Palazzo Pubblico. Its Neo-Gothic style, clock tower, and grand arched entryways gave it such a majestic appeal that made it a suitable venue for official ceremonies. Another fascinating landmark is the Piazza della Liberta, which blends in well with the landscape.

When going to nearby countries, one of the best destinations is United Kingdom. London, its capital, has a variety of museums and art galleries one can get lost in for the better part of the week. Numerous historical sites such as the Tower and Westminster Abbey are also possible additions to the itinerary. The English countryside is also a beautiful sight with its moors and wide plains amidst clear skies.

Ireland should also be part of the list for those who want to immerse themselves in its green surroundings and lively pub culture. Traditional music can be fun to hear and see performed; the upbeat jigs and heartrending ballads played with traditional instruments can put a romantic twist to a journey. Its far-off villages are also a delight, not just because of the natural sights but also the friendliness of the Irish. Other cultural landmarks await in this country, such as Dublin Writers Museum and the old library of Trinity College.

For the ultimate adventure, a trip to faraway Thailand from San Marino can be a plan to consider. The Buddhist temples and the Grand Palace are sights to behold. Those looking to learn about the culture of the country can explore the National Museum, which is arguably the largest one in South East Asia. It houses a veritable treasury of antiquities and artworks that one will find memorable.

One unique destination to look forward to is the Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute, a wildlife area and organisation that produces anti-venom serum for snake bite victims in the world. One should also ask around for the time of the snake shows. There is sometimes a schedule for snake charmers handling king cobras, Burmese pythons, and other types of snakes.

Beaches are also popular in Thailand, particularly Phuket. An international beach destination, Phuket caters to various nationalities, which makes it one of the most cosmopolitan places to be in the region.
