Flights from Long Apung

Long Apung Airport is a public airport serving Indonesia's city of Long Apung. It is located in the Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan. The aviation facility resides at an elevation of 731.52 m (2,400 ft). Its runway, designated 00/18, has bitumen surface and measures 2,756 ft (840 m) long.

North Kalimantan is a province occupying 72,275.12 km2 in the Indonesian part of the island Borneo. It is also the newest province in the country, as it was only formed on 25 October 2012. North Kalimantan is divided into four regencies; Bulungan Regency, Nunukan Regency, Tana Tidung Regency, and Malinau Regency (of which Long Apung is part), and one city, Tarakan City. The capital is Tanjung Selor.

Where to go

Tourism in North Kalimantan is not exactly very well-developed yet, perhaps primarily owing to the fact that it is the youngest province of Indonesia. However, North Kalimantan is known for having the largest protected Jungla area in South East Asia, spanning almost two million hectares. The forest in Kayan Mentarang National Park is extremely dense, and is home to approximately 130 species of herbs, 25 species of seed-plants, and about 160 species of wild orchids, pitcher plants, Dipterocarpus trees, raflessia flowers, and many others, including more than half the species of hard wood in the world. Additionally, the fauna present in North Kalimantan is the most diverse in the whole of Borneo Island. Clouded leopards, bears, Bornean gibbons, orangutans, rhinoceroses, and various other mammal, reptile, and bird species can be found in the province. Protected species in the Kayan Mentarang National Park include the helmeted hornbill, wrinkled hornbill, rhinoceros hornbill, and Bulwer's pheasant. Also within the park are archaeological remains such as stone tools and graves indicating that certain areas were inhabited over 350 years ago.

Long Apung Airport does not offer any direct international flights. It offers flights to the international airport in Tarakan, which in turn operates to Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Airport in East Kalimantan. This offers regular passenger service to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Singapore Changi Airport in Singapore, in the Republic of Singapore. Singapore is a prime destination in Asia, with plenty of tourist accommodations and attractions. For starters, its popular island resort Sentosa features a 2km long stretch of sheltered beach, two golf courses, 14 hotels, the Resorts World Sentosa (which includes two casinos, a Universal Studios theme park, Adventure Cove Water Park, and a Marine Life Park), Fort Siloso, and the world-famous icon Merlion.

The airport in the capital also flies to Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, which has direct flights to long-haul destinations. Travellers can fly to the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and the Netherlands. Visit Amsterdam to tour several important structures such as the Anne Frank House, Rembrandt House Museum, and Rijksmuseum. It is also home to the Heineken Experience, the historic brewery and corporate visitor center of the famous Dutch pilsner, Heineken beer.
