There is plenty to explore within Japan itself, from the lovely city of Sapporo (CTS), where you can traipse through the untouched countryside of the nation’s most northerly island of Hokkaido. Or the paradisiacal climes of the island of Okinawa (OKA), where you can enjoy warm breezes and sandy beaches even through to late autumn. Both places can be reached in around two hours, making them ideal for a weekend break.
