Without a doubt, the Colombo Bandaranaike Airport (CMB) is the busiest and largest airport in Sri Lanka, hosting most of the international flights into this country. At 32km from the capital’s CBD you can find connections between the two via buses, shuttles and taxis.

 

You can fly to 50 destinations from Colombo’s airport, primarily in Asia, but with routes out to the Middle East, and Europe.

 

Colombo’s airport is a major hub for SriLankan Airlines, which services most national routes, with a few international ones. Other airlines operating from this hub are China Eastern, Air Arabia, Austrian Airlines, Korean Air, Air India, Sriwijaya Air, Cathay Pacific, Emirates and Air China.

You can easily fly to Hambantota (HRI) in the south and enjoy the glorious beaches down there, or experience the cultural might of the central provinces of Sri Lanka by touring the ancient city of Sigiriya (GIU), a phenomenal UNESCO World Heritage Site. From Colombo, you can reach these destinations in under an hour.

 

Just beyond the shores of Sri Lanka, you’ll find that flying between two and six hours, can have you wandering along the sands of Gan (GAN) in the Maldives, ambling across the incredible Ghats in the spiritual city of Varanasi (VNS), or striking out into the jungles of Sumatra by flying to Medan (KNO) in Indonesia.

 

Longer journeys can take you to either side of the world.
