There are a few filling stations just off State Highway 3, which passes close to the airport. If you're approaching from the west you'll pass a Caltex a few minutes before the airport turn. From the east, your best bet is coming off the main road into the town of Waitara. There's a BP petrol station on North Street: just follow the road around and it'll bring you back onto the highway.

There are no major motorways around the airport. State Highway 3 is a standard dual carriageway. Traffic in New Zealand drives on the left, like the UK.
