This is in order to avoid disappointment upon arrival, especially during the peak season. Driving is a great way to visit the beaches in Menorca and its other tourist sites.
Where to hire a car at Menorca Airport
Car rental operators at Menorca Airport include Owners Cars, Hertz, Avis-Budget, Europcar, and Enterprise Rent A Car. The car rental desks are located on the first floor of the terminal. Opening hours are as follows: Owners Cars operates from 7:00AM to 10:00PM, Hertz operates from 7:00AM to 11:00PM from April to September, and 7:00AM to 10:00PM from October to March, Avis-Budget operates from 7:00AM to 10:30PM, Europcar operates from 7:30AM to 10:30PM, and Enterprise Rent A Car operates from 7:00AM to 10:00PM.
What to expect when hiring a car from Menorca Airport
Menorca Airport is situated 4.5 kilometres or 2.8 miles southwest of Mahón in the island of Menorca in Spain. To get to Mahón city proper, follow Me-12 to the south and take the 1st exit at the roundabout to stay on Me-12. Take the second exit at the next roundabout onto Carrer de Cassallo. Continue onto Placa Esplanada and take the first exit on the roundabout to stay on Placa Esplanada in Mahón. Alternatively, you can also take Me-1 right after Me-12.
If driving back to the airport from Mahón, simply follow Me-12 westbound. Drive on Me-14 to the airport. If coming in from Ciutadella, take Me-1 eastbound and get on Me-14 to the airport.
Driving around Menorca Airport
When driving a rental car in Menorca, always bring with you the following: a valid driving licence, passport or a photocopy of the passport, and the car rental document. Bring the insurance papers as well, if any. Drivers must be over 25 years of age and have held a full licence for at least three years. Parking in front of an opening, driveway, or garage is prohibited in Menorca. The parking bays in towns are outlined by a blue box, and there should be a machine nearby where you can get a parking ticket. Parking is limited to 30 minutes, one hour, or two hours. Display the ticket in the car window before leaving the vehicle.
Getting to your destination
The capital city Maó, also known as Mahón, is known for its port, bars, and restaurants. The harbour is the second largest natural deep water port in the world. Resting atop cliffs lining the harbour's southern shore, Maó offers nice views. The buildings in town are mostly in 18th century Gothic style.
From Menorca Airport, Maó or Mahón is accessible via Me-12.
The fishing village of Fornells is situated on the edge of a beautiful large bay. It is notable for the tasty dishes served in restaurants. There are also a few beaches around the bay where it's possible to do water activities, like kayaking, windsurfing, and catamaran excursions.
From the airport, you can either take Me-1 or Me-7, or both.
Ciutadella de Menorca
Ciutadella de Menorca, or Ciutadella, is the former capital of Menorca. The charming city offers several tourist attractions, such as Placa d’es Born, the fishing and leisure port, Placa de la Catedral, Town Hall, the palaces of Palau Salort and Palau de Torresaura, and Teatre Municipal d'es Born. There is no beach in Ciutadella, but the small beahces of Cala Santandria and Sa Caleta are just three kilometres away.
