Driving around Gloucestershire Airport
Gloucestershire Airport is well connected to the region's major roads. It takes about five minutes to drive onto the M5 (Exeter to Birmingham) from the airport. The A40 dual carriageway from London to Fishguard is just a few minutes away, too. There are smaller local roads which bring you into the towns, perfect if you want to avoid motorway traffic.
Getting to your destination
The gateway to the West Country and the home of one of England's most beautiful cathedrals, Gloucester is a pleasant little city with plenty of attractions.
It takes about 15 minutes to drive into central Gloucester from the airport. Lots of hotels in Gloucester have car parks for guests: if you decide to hire a car, make sure you confirm this before you book your room. On-street pay and display car parking is available, and there are 15 pay and display car parks run by the local council too. You can park for free after 6pm at Southgate Moorings car park.
Horse racing and jazz festivals draw tourists to Cheltenham, a well-heeled spa and university town dotted with Regency buildings.
It takes about 10 minutes to drive to Cheltenham from the airport. Pay and display parking is available on-street, and the council also operates 15 pay and display car parks. Charges vary, but as a general rule car parks nearer the centre are more expensive. Hotels with car parking are available. If you're visiting in March it's a good idea to book your accommodation in advance. This is when the Cheltenham Festival takes place, and hotel rooms sell out very quickly.
Timber-framed buildings lend Tewkesbury a charming medieval atmosphere. Cosy pubs and boutique hotels add to the old world charm.
It takes just over 15 minutes to drive to Tewkesbury from Gloucestershire Airport. There are eight pay and display car parks, all run by the city council. You can expect to pay £1 for up to an hour, £2 for for up to three hours, and £4 for over three hours. At Station Road car park you can park for £1 for any period of time between 8am and 5:30pm.
